Kripalu Yoga

Yoga classes at Take Me To The River Yoga are taught in the Kripalu Yoga tradition. In a Kripalu Yoga class you can expect a focus on the Eight Limbs of Yoga, particularly:

Asana – the classic yoga postures
Pranayama – yogic breathing techniques
Dharana – concentration, quieting the mind and relaxation

Other aspects found in the Kripalu Yoga tradition and brought into the yoga class are practicing with the flow of Prana (the life-force energy), developing witness consciousness through observing the mind and the thoughts without judgement, and working on everything else that happens in our lives “off the mat.”

Living the yoga lifestyle “off the mat” is the practice of taking what we learn in yoga class into other areas of our lives. By connecting with our body, bringing attention to our breath and observing the mind during yoga practice we quickly develop more sensitivity to everything. Our lives off the mat begin to reflect this new awareness in our relationships with ourselves and others as described in the Yamas and Niyamas of the Eight Limbs of Yoga.

Tish Ganey at Take Me To The River Yoga is a KRYT 500 Kripalu Registered Yoga Teacher and teaches in the Kripalu tradition. She is actively involved in continuing education at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA. Kripalu is one of the oldest and largest yoga centers in the country, providing seminars, retreats and training in areas related and complementary to Yoga and Ayurveda.
